Theres a very broad demographic for a utilties app of this scale, and we wanted people who were'nt particularly app-savvy to able to pick it up and use it without any confusion.

A light and minimal inferface was chosen to appear accessbile and friendly and we made important information like a customer's bills and payments as simple and as clear as possible. Animations are used throughout the app (typically reserved for the end of user journeys) to give to visual feedback and give the app a little more character. This wasn't an app we wanted users to have to hang around in, so the speed at which a user could successfully complete a task and leave the app was a key metric

After launching the new version of the app to EDF customers, it's app store rating went from a 1.2 to a 4.6 in a just couple of months.

After getting the basics right, we were able to move onto intergrating other quality of life features like functionality for Pay as You accounts (something which was absent previously) Whatsapp intergration for help and support, and concepts for a dark mode. With such a wide variety in the kinds of accounts, tarrifs, and methods of payment available to EDF customers a lot of effort went into making sure the app was able to account for a large range of possible scenarios and customer preferences
